When in Seoul: Bukchon Hanok Village

A stroll in and out of the hilly alleys of Bukchon Hanok Village is a great way to cap off your visit to the Palace district.

Here, hanoks  or traditional homes from the Joseon Dynasty still stand amid the burgeoning urban landscape of Seoul.
You are encouraged to walk quietly as people still actually live in these homes, but of course, there are cafes, restaurants and shops in and around the area. You may even stay in one of these hanoks as an alternative to a hotel.
The sight of Korean youths walking around in their traditional hanboks help you feel transported to that bygone time, 600 years ago. But, of course, in Seoul, you're never too far away from civilization.
The shadow of the very modern N-Seoul tower looms in the background while Korean teens hold hands while climbing up a hilly portion of Bukchon.
How to get here: Anguk Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), Exit 1 or 2.
