When in Seoul: Puppy Cafe

If you marry Seoul’s quirky side with its heavy affinity for caffeine, you’d end up with a Puppy Café! There are coffee shops aplenty in every corner of Seoul and to reel you in, some shops have had to come up with various ways to vie for your attention—and this one has dogs that can’t get enough of it.
I wonder what happened to those letters...

Bau House in Hongdae is tucked in a little corner street from Exit 3 at the Hapjeong Station on Line 2.  There are signs pointing to the place on the street leading up to it but keep a hawk-eye out because the signs are not huge at all. Once you get there, oh it’s Doggie heaven!

There is no fee to come in, but you do need to order a drink—coffee, tea or juice for about KRW 7,000 (about $6.25).  The coffee is bland and nothing to rave about but who cares?!? You’re there for the Pups!

The place is segretated by dog size—the little ones like the terriers and Chihuahuas are at the front side and the big ones like the Setters , Retrievers and Malamutes are in the back side separated by a little gate. Of course the little ones love to squeeze past you through the gate if you open it because, I don’t know, it’s like preschoolers wanting to go to Big School or something.

We suspect this one peed on Ketie's scarf...

Look at this tall dog!!!
Not all the dogs in the café reside there, some were dropped off by their owners for daycare but they’re all okay to pet and cuddle with! You can pick them up, or more likely, one or two will sidle by you and claim you for the next hour. It appears, dogs are clingy, needy creatures. All fine by us.
True to their temperament these Chihuahuas were nippy and fighting each other all over the place.

You can buy food to feed the puppies and you'll be so popular. But isn't it better if they loved you for who you are inside?

Does it smell like dog in there? Yes. Do you get dog fur all over you? Absolutely. Should you wear all black to this excursion like me? Definitely not. In the end, when you’ve convinced yourself it’s time to go, there is a station to wash your hands and take the fur off. You’re welcome to wash the stench off with your perfume but you got Doggie memories to last a lifetime. Also maybe a little bit of dog pee.

Xoxo,
Karrisa and Ketie
